I contacted the Digital Minister, Margot James MP, on behalf of a constituent regarding broadband provision in my constituency. She let me know about many of the schemes in place to help improve broadband provision across Cheshire, and the United Kingdom. Whether it be by the Broadband Delivery UK partnership, the Better Broadband Scheme, or the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, there are options open to constituents to overcome some of the challenges that are presented in providing a good service in isolated areas. The Government has also worked to improve access to satellite broadband, or fixed 4G connections. The Government has acknowledged that whilst our action to date has helped us take great strides forward there is still more to do. This is why they will be introducing a 'Universal Service Obligation' which will allow residents to request a connection of at least 10mbps. I'm proud to be a part of the changes the Government are making and I regularly talk with the Ministerial team to raise the difficulties my constituents have in acquiring a broadband connection.
