FarmingUK has released a new article which explains that the government have now enacted a legal obligation to deliver the universal service obligation (USO) of 10Mbps speeds for all homes by 2020 regardless of their location in the U.K.
Whilst this is a great step forward, I'm sceptical that 10Mbps by 2020 is going to be fast enough.
Homes and businesses need more than this for multitasking online. People streaming movies and TV shows and trying to play online gaming is not an option on speeds like this. Businesses trying to back up data to offsite storage and trying to run a business in real time will struggle. In this day and age, upload speeds are just as critical as a download, however, there is no mention on this in the article.
OFCOM will have their work cut out putting together and implement a scheme suitable for all in just 2 years time.
